Tournament Rules

  1. The Marco Peña Memorial Fishing Tournament is governed by all federal, state, and local laws as well as IGFA rules for saltwater and fly fishing. Both bait and lures allowed.

  2. TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD RAIN OR SHINE SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 2018.

  3. NO REFUND OF ANY KIND WILL BE MADE FOR ENTRY FEES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

  4. WINNERS MAY BE SUBJECT TO A LIE DETECTOR TEST.

  5. Mandatory Captain’s Meeting FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2018. Each team captain or his designee is required to be present at the captain’s meeting.

  6. Tournament will be a team event with Guides allowed in all divisions.

  • Team Divisions

    • Open Team will include up to 4 fishermen.

    • Family Team will include up to 5 fishermen and must include at least 1 person of the 14 yrs. of age or younger. All teammates of Family Team participant must be close relative to each other on the team and must participate in the same boat. 

  • Individual & Kayak

    • Open to all individual anglers that are not fishing in any type of motorized watercraft.

  7. Spectators are not allowed in boat with participants during tournament hours.

  •   8. All entered fish must be caught during tournament hours. No check-in is required before fishing. 

  • Individual & Kayak tournament are6:00 AM to 2:00 PM

  • Team Division tournament hours are 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM

  9. Offshore fishing is not allowed. Surf fishing is allowed by wading or pier-fishing only. Fishing must be in Texas coastal waters.

  10. Weigh-in

  • Individual & Kayak Division weigh in will be between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Anyone not standing in the weigh-in line, with your fish, at 2:00 PM will be disqualified. A valid driver’s license may be required at check-in.

  • Team Division weigh-in will be between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Anyone not standing in the weigh-in line, with your fish, at 3:00 PM will be disqualified. A valid driver’s license may be required at check-in.

  11. Only rods and reels may be used to catch fish. Each participant may have as many rods and reels as they want, but may only fish with one at a time.

  12. All fish must be legal and are subject to verification. Redfish submitted to the weighmaster must be slot redfish (BETWEEN 20 AND 28 INCHES). All Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rules will be observed. ALL OVERSIZE REDFISH MUST BE TAGGED AND WILL NOT BE WEIGHED IN. If an oversize size un-tagged fish or undersize fish is weighed in, tournament team will be disqualified. TP&W Officers will have the official measuring devices at the weigh-in. Please remember the tape measures on ice chest are not always accurate. A TP&W Game Warden will be present at weigh-in. It will be the Game Wardens decision whether or not to issue citations at event. All fish subject to inspection by weighmasters. All entrants subject to questioning by weighmasters and/or their designees.

  13. ALL DECISIONS MADE BY WEIGHMASTER ARE FINAL. ALL FISH WILL BE INSPECTED FOR ALL MANNERS OF CHEATING INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:  trimming, blunting, icing, weighting, injecting, stringing/staking/caging fish, blocking fishing areas, or any other form of cheating.

  14. If bait or fish are inside the mouth of the fish when caught, you may secure the fish’s mouth so it does not fall out. If it falls out AT ANYTIME (including weigh in), you may not put it back in.

  15. Prizes:

  • Grand Champion - will be open to all anglers no matter what division they were entered in. Grand Champion winner will be determined by heaviest combined weight of 1-Redfish (20” – 28”) and 1-Trout (any legal size). Fish can be used from team stringer. Fish that are weighed in must be weighed by the sole person that caught them.

    • Men’s Grand Champion

    • Women’s Grand Champion

    • Kid’s Grand Champion (child of the age 6 - 12 yrs. old)

      • Other prizes will be given to any kid under the age of 6 that weigh in any fish.

  • Open Team - Winners will be determined by heaviest combined weight of 1 – Redfish (20” – 28”), 3 – Trout (1 trout over 25” and other 2 under 25”), and 1 - Flounder.

    • 1st Place – Buckles

    • 2nd Place - Buckles

    • 3rd Place – Buckles

  • Family Winners – Winners will be determined by heaviest combined weight of 1 – Redfish (20” – 28”), 3 – Trout (1 trout over 25” and other 2 under 25”), and 1 - Flounder.

    • 1st Place – Buckles

    • 2nd Place - Buckles

  • Individual & Kayak Winners – will be determined by heaviest combined weight of 1 – Redfish (20” – 28”) & 1 – Trout.

    • 1st Place – Buckles

16.  Stringer & Fish Pots: Pots will be a Team and/or Individual entry per category. 

  • Stringer – Winner will be determined by the heaviest combined weight of 1 – Redfish (20” – 28”), 3 – Trout (only 1 over 25”), and 1 – Flounder.

    • $ 100.00 Entry – CASH ONLY

    • Pot will payout 100% of earnings 70% - 1st Place, 30% - 2nd Place  

  • Fish Pots – Winners will be determined by team’s heaviest fish of that species.

    • $ 50.00 Entry per Species – CASH ONLY

    • Pot will payout 100% of earnings in each division. Each division will pay out as such 70% - 1stPlace, 30% - 2ndPlace  

  17. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT AND GENERAL RELEASE OF ANGLER:    As with any recreational activity, participation in the Marco Pena Memorial Fishing Tournament presents a certain degree of risk of personal injury. By electing to participate in the tournament, each participant agrees to assume such risk. In consideration for being permitted to participate in the tournament, and by so participating, each participant additionally agrees, individually and for such participant’s heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assignees, that he/she shall hold harmless and indemnify fully, and does thereby release, acquit and forever discharge, The Marco Pena Charitable Foundation and The Make-A-Wish Foundation, its affiliates, agents, representatives, officers, directors, employees and sponsors from any and all claims, causes of action, demands, rights, damages and losses which may accrue on account of, or in any way arise from, his/her participation in said tournament, even if caused by the acts or omissions of others.
